GAP's Vertical Digging System Provides Improved Safety and Productivity

GAP Hire Solutions has bought its first vertical VDS (Vertical Digging System) excavator from Wacker Neuson.

The decision to add the three-tonne EZ28 model to their fleet was driven by excellent feedback after the German manufacturer supplied the machine for evaluation by GAP and engineers at The Highland Council.

GAP's Head of Procurement, Ken Stewart, commented: "When excavators are working on a slope, the VDS concept is a real advantage as up to 25% material and time savings can be achieved when excavating or backfilling. In addition to these productivity savings, there are obvious health and safety benefits with an increase of up to 20% in stability. Also, the operator is seated in the conventional position when operating on a slope."

The latest deal further cements the relationship between the two companies. In March, GAP renewed a three-year supply agreement for light compaction equipment including plates and rammers, breakers, floor saws and trench rollers. Additionally, as GAP strives to maintain their renowned reputation for offering customers market-leading equipment and the youngest fleet in the industry, the national equipment hirer has also been investing heavily in Wacker Neuson's site dumpers, including cabbed models.
